Path of Exile Challenges: Why Now Is Your Best Time to Start?

Lot of people over the years have tried it on my recommendation and gave up before reaching Merveil because they felt it’s old, archaic, slow and clunky. Main complaints were mana running out too fast, inventory filling too fast, need too many wisdom and portal scrolls, combat slow and clunky, etc. Those who slog through the first two acts get totally addicted though.

But today, I’ll be talking about Path of Exile Challenges. It’s a difficult game to get into at first, but NOW of all times is the best time to start playing the game! Let’s get into it!

I’ll tell you one main reason why: an expansion released in August called The Fall of Oriath, which has completely revamped the game for the better. Grinding Gear Games added in a ton of new features, made improvements to the existing infrastructure and tweaked the storyline into something that makes much more sense.

Honestly, for any players reading this, this is the best time to get started with this game. I may have touched on the difficulties in getting started above, but keep reading, because the new expansion has addressed these issues I brought up earlier, and then some!

When You Need a Helping Hand
The first major enhancement to POE was the addition of a Help Panel, located in an unobtrusive, yet prominent area on the display, right next to your Mana Gauge. Opening it (which I recommend you do that either in town or after you’ve cleared an area of enemies!) allows access to a number of topics regarding everything POE. It includes Skill gems, the passive skill tree, currencies, character customization and anything else that you’ll run into during your adventures. The help panel unlocks new content as you progress, so it’s perfect for the first time player, since it lays out a simple explanation of how the game works in an easy to use interface and only give them the relative information they need to keep going without too much hassle. There is also a tutorial in the help panel that can also help first timers get acclimated to the world of Wraeclast.

Revamped Story and Gameplay
The next most significant changes made to the game were the removal of the Cruel and Merciless difficulties and the addition of six new acts (Acts Five to Ten). This turns POE into a genuine RPG with a continuous ten act storyline, as opposed to players replaying the first four acts a total of three times to advance further. Difficulty-centred quest rewards have also changed, for example, the rewards for the “Deal with the Bandits” quest in Act 2 has been reworked. The experience and resistance penalties from the removed difficulties have remained but now they are applied when players reach Acts Five and Ten respectively.

A POE planner tool has also been created to help players plan out their character’s progression, select their ideal equipment and create builds of their own, without having to experiment in game. The tool allows you to select a class, their ascendancy, a passive reward from the “Deal with the Bandits” quest in Act Two, 123 passive points and eight Ascendancy points, enough to plan out your build on the tree. Other tabs include selecting equipment for your build, your chosen aura and a final tally of what your build would look like at whatever point you are at in the game. It’s incredibly useful for players to use and experiment with different builds and items before applying them in game, making it all the more easier to get into it.

Expansion into Home Consoles
Working closely with Microsoft, Grinding Gear Games has now brought POE to the Xbox One home console. This gives players a new way to jump in on all the action from the comfort of their couch, all without the hassle of looking for a good gaming PC or laptop to play on. Now, I don’t own an Xbox One, so I can’t try it myself, but so far it has been well-received by the major gaming publications.

RMT Marketplaces
Our last note here revolves around Real Money Trading (RMT) Marketplaces. These places can help players jumpstart their game by selling in-game currencies and equipment for a minimal cost. Pricing for various currencies and items are at the best they’ve ever been, so it’s well worth it for the new or experienced player to look into.

Path of Exile 3.1 - What Maps Have Shaper Orbs in Path of Exile?

Shaper's Orbs are non-tradable consumable items that can be used to upgrade the tier of a map in the Atlas of Worlds. This causes future drops of that map to have a "Shaped" prefix and the upgraded tier level. Atlas progress and map shaping is tracked separately for each league, and shared between all characters in that league. But, many people don't know what maps have shaper orbs.

Well thats the thing once you are working in from say the bottom left like i am you want to continue to stay in that area.. Dont go up to the top right and work in too. This will cause you to have to complete as well as later remove more maps once you have all your orbs. Of course, you can buy PoE orbs. My suggestion is stick to the area you started it in work the influence back and forth through the tier into the middle from whatever corner you started. This should help save you quite a few maps to remove later. Rather than jump other to the other side get some frags for orbs then jump to another quadrant. Thats gonna definitely cost you for sure. But again it doesn't matter which T11 elder goes to it will show the ring on the NEXT T11 whatever it is where ever it is.

Keep in mind too thought this isnt such a big deal through the T6-10 ones its once you get into the middle working the T11-15 frags for orbs that it will become costly to jump around quadrants but at the same time the influence can be harder to control and you might have no choice but to go where it goes as it progress's through the tiers. if it influences the next tier and shows the blue ring you need to run it anyway but it will be another map you must remove later. Again i think no matter what you do its gonna be tough to keep it to bare minimum cost for removing later unless you had great RNG and elder goes exactly where you want him to. Which you have some control but not 100% But once you are getting shaper orbs through the yellow tiers it should become more clear how to influence and manipulate where you want the elder influence to go. Then the trick is actually having the next map to run for the frag.. which ive just broken down and bought any i dont happen to have for the sake of sanity.

Again i cant stress this enough.. NO CERTAIN MAP DROPS FRAGS TO TURN IN FOR ORBS!!! The first tier map from the last tier you get a frag from will show the ring doesn't matter the map only the tier.

And again the only answer i dont have at this time is idk if you even get multiple orbs per tier in the reds anymore its looking like one shaper orb per tier so far but i wont have the definite answer till tomorrow sometime.

How to Collect Maps in Path of Exile?

Are you a new player to experience the specific features of Atlas? But, you should bear in mind that the Atlas is incredibly complicated.

The Atlas is the endgame for Path of Exile. When you finish the story, around level 70, you gain access to ‘maps,’ which are new zones to run. These are all part of the Atlas, which is really just a large collection of maps that serve as a visual representation of the locations you are visiting.

All of the maps start at tier one, and progress all the way to tier 16. Each of the tier one maps start in the corner of the maps, and you’ll move towards the center, gaining tiers and difficulty as you go. As you make your way through the Atlas, you will encounter all the enemies you fought throughout the story, as well as some new mobs. Same goes for bosses. There are 157 maps on the Atlas, and they’re all packed to the brim with things that want to kill you.

How do you collect maps? Here is what you need to know:

Whenever you are in a map of any tier, mobs have a chance to drop maps instead of regular loot. These maps can be the same tier, one tier higher, or any tier lower than the one you’re currently running.

In other words, if you’re playing a tier 4 map, you have a chance of a tier 5, tier 4, tier 3, tier 2, or tier 1 map dropping. However, the possible map drops only include maps that are connected in some way to the pathways you currently have access to on your Atlas.

A map gets added to the list of possible map drops once you beat the boss and clear the level.

The monsters you kill on a map can only drop a map connected to the one you are already running. For example, Graveyard is a tier 1 map that is connected to Marshes, a tier 2 map. In order for me to find my first Marshes (tier 2) map, I have to find it while running Graveyard (tier 1), since the two maps are directly connected. Any mob in a Graveyard map can drop a Marshes map, allowing me to then run Marshes.

Don’t worry about getting a bunch of copies of maps you’ve already cleared. You can sell three copies of a map to an NPC vendor in order to get a map that’s one tier higher. In other words, if you can’t find a Marshes map, sell three Graveyards for one.
As you advance, bosses can drop maps that are two tiers higher. However, you need to have actually unlocked the tier in between the current map and the map that’s two tiers higher for this to be possible. There’s no skipping over maps!

If you have completed a map and killed the boss, then it’s permanently added to the list of maps you can find. So if you’re running a tier four map, you can drop a different tier four map that you’ve completed, even though they aren’t connected. This is great for building up a map pool, but it doesn’t help you move forward on the Atlas.

Magic Quality Equipments – Blue items only work in the early game. You won’t be able to sell it in the market in during your high level stage because people need rare items on their higher levels.

Rare Quality equipments – The principle in every MMORPG is that you have to pick every rare item.

Low Stat White Accessories – pretty much useless, although, white accessories that have high stat bonus tend to be more valuable than blue accessories that have low stat bonus.
Scrolls – In the early game, scrolls have their values. As you level up scrolls lose its value.
However, in the long run, some crappy items will start to have their value as the game grew old, because the game’s admin will make events that will probably require those crappy items that players usually think it’s rubbish. It doesn’t happen very often so don’t worry.

The Latest Expansion for Path of Exile

Ten New Gems

Path of Exile: Is It The API to Be Accessible by Everyone?

In case you do not know, the good folks at Grinding Gear Games have released Whitelisting of the Trade API. We can tell you that many of the people we have spoken to who have come GM2V to buy Path of Exile 3.1 Orbs are very excited for this, as are we. As you're probably aware, there's an API that returns the contents of public stash tabs. Is it really necessary for the API to be accessible by everyone? Is it a good idea, that having a higher internet bandwidth with no limits should allow one to acquire higher ingame wealth thanks to item sniping? Let us see community thinks about it!

1) The most fair thing would be if established sites like and or get to keep using the API because they are public domains that everyone has access to (everyone gets the same and fair chance at obtaining information/items). So as long as people make their domains public it should be allowed.

Thousands of people using private sniping tools that fucks the servers and gives some people an advantage shouldn't be a thing.

2) GGG can (and may be) change the API in a few somewhat simple ways that would support community sniping tools (and generally encourage development of other tools) without incurring a large load.

The current API is designed solely for snapshot based indexers ("here is a snapshot of every item available in a stash tab with updates snapshots of the tabs as they change"). This results in some limitations that have to be worked around for historical tracking, but more importantly it does not track changes. This is where the massive bandwidth comes from, and it requires a lot of extra processing.

If GGG provided an updated API that only pushed changes down the pipe to consumers (i.e. "this item was removed, this item was added") instead of the entire stash tab it would reduce the stream size by 90-95%+. If they offered a separate stream per league, the overall reduction would be extreme.

I'm interested in the announcement Bex mentioned, because if GGG just provides an official change based stream, it'll solve a ton of their issues.

3) I don't have a horse in this race, but to me it seems like closing down the API and making it only available to a few select sites seems to be the opposite of fair.
I don't really like private indexers either. That said you can basically get a template for one and build one yourself without much knowledge, if you really feel they are that unfair.

Should the servers have to be able to handle hundreds or possibly thousands of players running private sniping tools, especially in the beginning period of a league?
In my opinion opinion it would be best if just a few sites like, poeapp or where whitelisted for the tradeapi. But i would be interested to know what the community thinks about it, if my thoughts are wrong and if not how it could be improved.

A Slayer's Guide to Slaying and Leeching in PoE

I’ve been maining Slayer for a few months now, mostly as a league starter uber lab runner. I’m not a super hardcore player, but I like to try to start running uber labs within about 24 hours of the start of the league. I think that Slayer is by far the best way to do that because Slayer leech is completely OP in the lab for traps and the spikey damage of izaro and argus, but the way it works is really complicated. I didn’t really understand it myself until I read up about all of the mechanics and built a spreadsheet to explain it. Now that the rest of you are going to be leeching over time like a noob along with me next patch, I figured I would share my insights into Slayer leech since I’ve noticed a lot of people on this sub don’t really understand the weird leech mechanics. Sorry for the wall of text followed by a spreadsheet, but it really takes that to understand all of it IMO.

The build is the same either way, so it's just a gear/gem swap. Sometimes I switch but I usually do t.

I usually just level and map with ice crash, it's not tier 1 but it's fun and after the aoe buff it'll be at least close in efficiency to other things.

I normally get rich from Uber lab on my first character and then think of something else to roll for super fast mapping to waste my Path of Exile currency on a week or so into the league

Imo overleech is still notable even on fast small hitting skills.

Let's say you use Cyclone with 10 hits per second and enough dps to comfortably hit the leech cap. Base leech rate, so things don't get complicated.

If you're at full life and get chunked down to 50% health, then you do 10 hits in the first second, going from 0-20% leech, average of 10% leech. Then for the next two seconds you leech 20% per second. So it takes you exactly 3 seconds to leech to full.
As Slayer, if you get hit down to 50%, you immediately start leeching at 20% per second, meaning it takes 2.5 seconds.

In this scenario, overleech by itself is providing an effective 20% more leech per second on average.

The numbers don't tell the whole story though, because, let's say the boss has a small chance to do a massive hit for 70% of your health. You need to be above 70% to survive this attack. For normal leech, you're in danger for 1.5 seconds, whereas with Slayer leech it's only 1 second. Or, let's say you're dodging around and get hit, and you only start attacking to leech .5 seconds later. Then it takes you 2 seconds to get above 70% on normal leech, while overleech is unaffected, it's still 1 second.
That specific example may be unlikely, but the point is that overleech is a lot more consistent, and the consistency alone translates into survivability that is difficult to quantify.
